Denise West is a lead vocalist mostly known for her expressive, jazz-like singing and her powerful contralto voice. Denise uses music as therapy, an escape, and wishes to share her gift with the masses. She is known for spreading love and good vibes through the power of music. Followers have compared her music style to a blend of various genres, including jazz, blues, folk, gospel, and classical. Denise was born to Mark & Clara Gibson of Houston, Texas & Shreveport, LA on November 17th. Denise sang in concert choirs during her youth in Los Angeles. A youthful highlight took place when Denise sang in the play Godspell at Dorothy Chandler Pavillion in the early 70's. She was also a wedding singer in the 80s and sang on the Carnival Cruise line in which the host said: "Denise makes the hair on my neck stand up!" After relocating with her family to the Phoenix, AZ area, Denise sang Praise & Worship at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church under Bishop Alexis Thomas, Director Buddy Strong, and Minister of Music Roney Jones for 7 years. Denise later served on music ministries with other local churches here in the Arizona Valley and was later appointed Music Director & Psalmist by Bishop Dr. Gary R. Johnson Jr. of Empowered Church International located in Queen Creek, AZ. Denise also was selected as a vocalist for the 24th Street Jazz Ensemble of South Phoenix, AZ. directed under Gary Moss. She sang at the ASU Center for the Studies of Race & Democracy and recently, was appointed to co-lead Praise & Worship for the National Baptist Convention-USA in Birmingham, Alabama. Special appearances include: Superbowl Gospel events, Diamondbacks National Anthem, and a host of Performing Arts Hall events around the valley. Denise is inspired by: Tremaine Hawkins, Cece Winans, Donna Summers, Brenda Russell, Roberta Flack, Yolanda Adams, Richard Smallwood Vision, Nancy Wilson, Randy Crawford, Rachelle Farrell, Nat King Cole & his daughter Natalie Cole.
